BKRA Coaches Game - DADDY Edition

Following the women coaches and manager's charity game, we're doing something for the "DADDYS" ... BKRA male coaches and managers and executives.

BKRA will be providing ice this coming Saturday 10th December at 8.30-9.30pm at Kirkland arena to have a friendly Men's coaches/managers game, BKRA versus BKRA. For safety's sake, we will be playing a pickup game of "hockey" since we don't have the proper facial protection, and really, from experience, it'd be a really ugly ringette game with just men.

Twelve people have so far signed up for the game. Non non-BK parents are also most welcome too, but will be charged $5, which will be donated to the association.

If you are interested, please contact Rick Lee at ironchefrick@gmail.com by THURSDAY 8th December. We will also welcome women if we don't have enough men, but only experienced female players that don't mind playing with men. Level is not important, but you should be able to skate properly.

The team draw will take place on FRIDAY night.

Quick facts:

  • Max 20 skaters and 2 goalies
  • Please let Rick know if you are a goalie
  • Please let Rick know your level on a scale of 1 to 10 (1=beginner and 10=NHL player)
  • Please let Rick know if you want to volunteer as a referee
  • Full equipment mandatory required
  • Full slapshots
  • If you say YES to the invite, don't cancel at the last minute
  • You will need a dark or a light jersey

This is not for charity or anything else but just to provide some fun for our volunteers.

Go on...drop Rick an email...you know you want to really!!!

Ladies League Players Wanted

The BKRA Ladies League team are looking for players to join them.

If you are interested, or want further information, then please contact Sylvie St. Arnaud at sylvie_starnaud@hotmail.com.

Concussions in Young Athletes - a Seminar

Lac St Louis Ringette Association is organising a seminar entitled "Concussions in Young Athletes" on Wednesday 14th December at 7.30pm at DDO Civic Centre Banquet Hall.

This topic should be of interest to all athletes, coaches and parents involved in ringette because we all know someone who has suffered a concussion playing sports and it seems to becoming more common in ringette players.

Find out more about concussions from Dr Scott Delaney (Research Director at Department of Emergency Medicine, McGill University Health Centre, McGill Sport Medicine Clinic and Team Doctor for the Montreal Alouettes and the Montreal Impact) - an expert who also has a daughter who plays ringette.

Charity Game - Sunday 27th November 2011

As a non-profit organization, BKRA understands the importance of giving back and teaching community values. To further BKRA’s role in the community, the association began raising funds for local charities. In 2010 we initiated an annual charity ringette game to raise funds for research into Juvenile Arthritis. Stemming from the fundraising success, we have partnered with the Montreal Children’s Hospital to raise money for their new state-of-the-art hospital.

As part of our charitable activities, BKRA has challenged the Pointe Claire Ringette Association to a charity fundraising game on Sunday, November 27th, 2011.

The Children's’ hospital has placed us in contact with a young Kirkland resident who is recovering from her cancer treatments. Her name is Alexa Fitzwilliam.

She was nominated as Pfizer’s Young Achievers 2011 in the 10 –11 year old category as well as helping PEDAL FOR KIDS raise donations (www.pedalez.com/e/default.asp). Alexa and BK will team up together that night to explain to our spectators the importance of giving back and using your voice in order to make a difference. BKRA couldn’t be prouder to have such an outstanding person to help us with our event.

Any donations you can make will be greatly appreciated. You may click on the following linke to donate directly to our cause on the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation web site: http://www.fondationduchildren.com/en/calendar.aspx?id=380

BK will receive the final count of these donations before our event. We will then announce it after the game.

Please feel free to email this link to family and friends who you think would want to contribute.

Please come out to cheer us on. It promises to be a very special evening: Sunday 27th November 2011 at Kirkland Arena 5:30pm – 7:00 pm

Entrance fee: $5 for adult, $3 for kids 18 and under

All players are encouraged to wear their jerseys

Start Cheering!

BKRA is starting it's "Start Cheering!" campaign here.

We want the whole ringuette experience to be a positive one for all, including referees and other teams. Positive encouragement is encouraged, but rude/abusive behaviour will not be tolerated. Not only is it upsetting ot the girls on the ice, this year it may also result in games being stopped.

You will see our posters around the arenas very soon. To start it off, here they are:

English

Francais

News for Parents - Penalty Minutes

Ringette Canada has started a campaign to emphasize the importance of certain rules, which may result in additional penalties this year as players and coaches adjust. As parents, we ask that you familiarize yourself with the new rules so that you understand what is taking place on the ice. As always, we ask that you respect the officials, and cheer from the stands in support of the game. Remember that one day it could be your daughter out on the ice reffing a game. Please show the refs the support you would show your own daughter.

You can find the rules on the Ringette Canada website: www.ringette.ca.
